Dr. R. Sarunkumar was born in the serene village of Koliyakode, under the Manikkal Grama Panchayat in Vembayam, Thiruvananthapuram district. His early education began at Koliyakode Government LP School, followed by Government LPS Pirappancode and the Vocational Higher Secondary School, Pirappancode. He later pursued a degree in Political Science from Rabindranath Tagore University, along with a one-year diploma in Retail Marketing Management.

But his true education came not just from classrooms, but from life itself.

Shaped by bitter experiences during his teenage years, Sarunkumar found his calling in anti-drug activism. Determined to make a difference, he began walking a path of awareness and rehabilitation — dedicating himself to saving others. With a natural interest in media and storytelling, he also became a freelance journalist, using his words as a tool to expose truths and inspire change.

Today, he is widely recognized as a social worker, media professional, and anti-drug campaigner — roles in which he has earned great respect. For his outstanding contributions in anti-drug awareness, he has received numerous awards, including two national awards, honoring his unique dedication to the cause.

In recognition of his significant impact in both social work and anti-drug activism, The World Human Rights Protection Commission awarded him an Honorary Doctorate and appointed him as the organization’s National Vice President — a role he proudly upholds.

From helping victims of floods, pandemics, and road accidents, to standing at the frontlines against drug mafias threatening the fabric of society, Dr. Sarunkumar has proven time and again that true service knows no rest. He continues to dedicate his life to protecting lives, empowering voices, and fighting for a better tomorrow.
